About Rutgers-Newark

Rutgers-Newark is one of three campuses of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and it is located in Newark, which is the largest city in the US state of New Jersey, also serving as the county seat of Essex County, having a population estimated at a number of more than 278 000 inhabitants, which makes it the largest municipality in the state and the 65th largest city in the U.S.

Rutgers-Newark official came into existence in 1946, when the New Jersey State Legislature voted to make it part of Rutgers University. Athletics

Rutgers-Newark's athletic teams are known as the Scarlet Raiders and they compete in NCAA Division III, in 14 sports - 7 for men and 7 for women. Their distinctive colors are scarlet red and black.
